A True American 1950 GMC Farm Truck

0

A truck story from the owner of this American classic,

“I was 10 years old when I saw this truck about 4 miles from our tobacco farm in Tobaccoville, North Carolina. The year was 1977. My Grand Father, Uncle and I went to help the farmer that owned the GMC truck gather hey at the end of summer. This helped feed his some 100 back angus steers for the winter. Located next to the large red barn sat this little diamond in the rough, it was this good looking truck, at the time it was old enough that I had never laid eye’s on such a beautiful ride. After we got up all the hey, and stored it in that ole feed barn, I asked the farmer if I could sit in the little green truck. He quickly replied, “we can do better than that, hop in young man”, and he drove me around his farm, watching him maneuver through the gears on the column was pretty amazing, and hearing that ole 6 cylinder motor sounding like a hyped up sewing machine was pretty cool. We were own the ole farm road when we came around the bend there was a Duck and its ducklings crossing the road to get to the pond. The farmer quickly reacted, and the oooohga, oooohga came barreling out of the horn as the ducks scurried out of the way. We drove back to the ole barn where he parked it, and I told him thanks for taking me on the ride in that pretty green pick-up, Time marched on, and we never helped that particular farmer again. I grew up as well, and a month after I graduated from high school, I joined the Air Force. I left my home and state, and traveled the country side for 24 year’s before retiring from the service.

I came back home.to settle down in North Carolina, close to the ole homestead. About nine years later a man pointed me in the direction of a 1950 GMC pick-up for sale not far from home. I went to look at it one Saturday morning, and this mechanic had the truck in a big storage building amongst 11 other classic vehicles. He told me that he bought the vehicles at an estate sale. He restored classics and resold them. I replied to him that the green truck was awesome, and he sold it to me. At the time I did not know until I went to register the pick-up, that this same truck was the same truck I sat in some forty years ago. I remember tearing up that day as I fondly recalled my experience on that Farmer’s farm, and having the opportunity to ride in that ole truck. The farmer had since past, and it was a grandson that sold the Farmer’s car collection through the estate sell.

The truck has 62,000 original miles. I was told some time in the early 80’s the truck went into a warehouse where it was kept with other vehicles. The truck had a repaint in the late 80’s, and sat dormmate for at least the next 29 years. I received it as an all original truck. Of course minor maintenance had to be accomplished to get back to road worthy status. New tires, chromed re-chromed, new gas tank, brake lines, electrical lines, and gas lines replaced. Currently all lights, and turn signals are operational, along with the dimmer switch. Heater works, wipers work, choke and throttle is operational. There is little or no rust, the truck has never been molested. and drives like a champ. A strong 228 ci motor, the head gasket has recently been replaced, along with the clutch plate being replaced.”

Truck was manufactured in Atlanta Georgia, and sold from North Wilkesboro, North Carolina on September 11, 1950

Nothing to See Here – Just a Bagged 65 Ford Pickup

0

I’m lucky to get to see several shows every year. Every big show has a range of mild to wild truck builds and everything in between. The wild are unrealistic builds for most people to even attempt. Most of us don’t have hundreds and hundreds of hours to devote to a truck build. When I come across an example of a quality build with the basics done right, I tend to want to show it.

This 65 caught my eye because you just don’t see a lot of mid-60’s Ford trucks that look incredible. This truck is obviously bagged as the side fender emblem shows. It provides just the right stance!

One Bad 1972 GMC Jimmy

This home grown restoration comes out of Michigan. You can’t miss it. It’s really tall and bright orange. And, oh yeah, under the hood is a GM 402 cubic inch engine that makes you hear it too!

Feelin Fine 55 Chevy Pickup

There are nice 55 Chevy trucks and then there are fine 55’s. The owners came over to Columbus this summer from PA to show off there LS3 powered 55 Chevy pickup. The truck is a custom built masterpiece of perfection. A flawless body sits on a custom built chassis with Scott’s Mustang II front suspension, custom 4 link, Firestone air bags controlled by an Accuaire E-Level Air Management System, Ford 8.8 rear end and Wilwood brakes providing the stopping power.

Providing the rumble is a 425 HP LS3 with BBK headers pumping through a 2-1/2″ stainless exhaust and Magnaflow mufflers. Backing up the LS engine is a Chevrolet Performance 4L65E transmission.

PPG paint was shot on the mostly 55 body. A 57 hood was used along with a 59 bed for a unique look to the 55. Rounding out the custom body is a custom firewall, fabricated radiator cover and a shaved cowl and wipers.

Wheel Vintiques rims wrapped in custom BF Goodrich Radial TA whitewalls are tucked under those massive fender wells. (225/70/R15 wheels up front and 235/60/R15 out back)

Inside, a custom interior provides the comfort along with a Vintage Air Heat/AC unit. The dash was modified and uses Dakota Digital HDX instrumentation.

2018 GoodGuys PPG Nationals

GoodGuys was back in Columbus Ohio for the 21st PPG Nationals Hot Rod Show. The weather was fantastic and the trucks were hot! We’ve come to expect a wide array of 30’s to 70’s classic trucks from restored to resto-mod and more at this show. 2018 was no different. Check out the trucks below.

We love the radical slammed & bagged classic trucks, but we also appreciate the simpler 30’s pickups just as much. We saw this fun little 32 in Columbus, Ohio and had to grab a few shots. Under the hood is a 355 Chevy with a GearStar built TH350 transmission. We thought you’d like it too!

No Limit Engineering Adds New Fatbar 4-Link For 73-87 C-10 Trucks

Now you square body truck owners can have the No Limit Fatbar Kit behind your truck! No Limit Engineering just launched a new version of the Fatbar 4-Link for 1973 – 87 Chevy and GMC C-10 trucks.

No Limit Fatbar Details

Our Fatbar 4-link suspension is designed for TRUCKS! We use a 220lb spring and a 5″ shock for a smoother ride, rather than many other kits that use a 3″ stroke shock.
This means they must use a 300/350lb. spring. The longer bar that we use allows a smoother weight transfer, which trucks desperately need.
“Parallel” 4-bar kits do not offer any weight transfer. This is not an opinion, it’s physics.
Our kit comes with a 30″ rear mounted panhard rod that has less radial deflection and LOWER ROLL CENTER than short, top mounted locators. If you’re building a hot rod truck, build it with parts designed for a truck. LIKE THE FATBAR!

This is the only kit on the market that will give you the ride and performance you’re looking for!

Choose between Coil-Overs, Air Bags and Shock-Waves

Includes C-Notch Kit with Bump Stops

I see a lot of classic trucks. Just like anyone else – I see some I like, some I don’t and then some that are just done perfectly. It’s just my opinion, but this 53 Ford has all the characteristics I love in a street truck. Lowered stance with a little bit of forward lean or rake – check. Smoothed out body with custom touches – check. Clean paint – check! Something a little different …. A big back window conversion in a 53??? – Check!

Custom 1952 International Pickup

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t usually see classic International pickups at shows that are this fun. Rolling on an S-10 chassis, American Racing Torq Thrust rims and sporting a lowered stance, this 52 was just cool. Providing the power is a 350 with a TH350 transmission. Custom fabricated smooth running boards and a windshield visor complete the custom look. A raised oak bed floor makes room for the wide Torq Thrust rims.

46 Chevy Truck - RedSometimes a truck is so impressive, the photos say it all. This 46 Chevy truck is one of those. We don’t see many 46 Chevy’s as it is, so this one really caught our attention at the Columbus show. First, the stance and place the owner parked it really made for a good photo shoot. Fit and finish were perfect!

A patinad truck isn’t everyone’s preference, but variety is what makes the classic truck world go around and around. This wild ride is just such a truck, sporting the worn look and giving you a hint of what it might become in the future, or not. I think that’s what people like the most about them, other than they’re just plain fun. The patinad trucks are good as is, or maybe one day they’ll get a smooth coat of new paint. Either way, these types of trucks are a great way to build a driver, build a foundation to do more with later and not really care if someone steps on the bedside step!
