1957 Chevrolet Step Side Pickup

1957 Chevy Pickup
1957 Chevy Pickup

This 57 Chevy pickup from Central Coast, CA has some amazing workmanship. A striking Champagne Gold exterior is complimented by a smooth saddle interior, oak bed and billet aluminum and chrome everywhere you look. Boyd Coddington wheels finish off the stance and look of this Cali 57.

Under the hood is a built 350 and 700R tranny, AC.

1952 Chevy North of the Border

0

This north of the border 52 Chevy resides in St. Catharines, Ontario Canada. It was restored in 2000 and had very little rust to work through. All of the factory sheet metal was retained, except the tailgate. When it came to choosing an engine, Tim chose a 5.7 liter tuned port injection small block from an 87 IROC attached to a 700R overdrive trans. Out back,  a 3.73 geared rear  limited slip axle puts the power to the ground. An OE GM wiring harness and ECM keeps the spark firing while a K&N filter allows the air to flow smoothly.

Keeping the truck cool is a four core radiator. A hand built aluminum fuel cell tucked between the bedrails stores the go juice. Stainless is everywhere under the hood and is also used for brake lines.

Front suspension is from a Trans Am clip sporting front disc brakes and lowered with new custom coil springs. Leaf springs handle the rear bounce and are also lowered.

GM Ralley rims are wrapped with BF Goodrich rubber

Paint is PPG urethane tropical turquoise from 1956 GM with House of Colour Pearl ICE crystals in clear giving the truck a little sparkle in the sun. Firewall holes were filled smooth while chrome bumpers finish off the ends of the truck. The straight bed is filled with solid Beech wood flooring with polished bed strips.

This truck is a multiple show winner and we love it!

Nice job Tim!

Money for School—SEMA Scholarship Applications Available

0

Contributed by SEMA eNews Vol. 15, No. 7, February 16, 2012

Students preparing for careers in the automotive industry may be eligible to receive automotive scholarships—ranging from $1,000–$4,000—through the 2012 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund (SMSF). The scholarship application requires college transcripts and letters of recommendation and is now available at www.sema.org/scholarships.

Since the fund’s inception in 1984, it has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships to more than 600 students engaged in studies leading to careers in the automotive aftermarket or related fields.

“Paying for a high-quality education is a challenge for many people, particularly in today’s tough economy,” said Jamie Eriksen, SEMA education director. “SEMA is pleased to play a part in helping students prepare for careers in our industry. The specialty-equipment industry is innovative, dynamic and holds many opportunities for the next generation.”

Unlike financial aid and student loans, the SEMA Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award that does not have to be paid back. Awards are granted to eligible applicants based on academic achievements, work experience, community involvement, essay content and recommendations. Students may re-apply each year, provided that they still meet the eligibility criteria.

A loan forgiveness award is also available to recent graduates who are working for SEMA-member companies and paying off existing student loans. Details and applications for both the scholarship and the loan-forgiveness awards are available at www.sema.org/scholarships.

Winners will be notified in the summer of 2012. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the student’s college, university, trade or vocational school to help offset the cost of tuition. Loan-forgiveness payments are sent directly to the financial institutions.

To review eligibility requirements or to access the application, visit www.sema.org/scholarships or contact Juliet Marshall at julietm@sema.org, 909-978-6655.

Power Brake Booster – A Necessary Addition

0
CPP Brake Booster Kit
CPP Brake Booster Kit

The weakest link of most classic trucks is the brake system. Even correctly restored brake systems from 40’s to 60’s trucks can be poor performers by today’s standards. Luckily, upgrading is fairly easy. First lose the single reservoir master cylinder if your truck is equipped with one. CPP makes a Corvette style master cylinder and power brake booster set-up that fits under the floor on 48-52 and 53-56 Fords as well as versions to fit Chevy and GMC trucks.

The CPP units can be configured for any disc/drum brake set-up. You can also use them on auto trans or stick shift set-ups. If you’re keeping your clutch pedal, you’ll need an additional kit when you purchase  the booster kit.

Installation is fairly straightforward:

2008 F100 Supernationals

0

Hundreds of Ford trucks invaded Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee for the 30th annual F100 SuperNationals. There were people from all over the U.S. and trucks of every kind: Rat rods, trucks in mid-build, show trucks, panels, F100’s, Broncos and anything in between. Friday was overcast and a little slow because of the rainy weather, but Saturday the park came alive with lots of people and sunshine. This was Pat Ford’s last year promoting the event, though he says he’ll still be back next year to help out and attend.

NEW – Heidts Superide II Now Available for 48-52 Ford F1’s

Heidts Superide II for 48-52 Ford F1
Heidts Superide II for 48-52 Ford F1

March 28, 2011 Wauconda, IL Heidts Hot Rods, a division of Heidts Automotive, now offers a Superide II ™ IFS (Independent Front Suspension) kit for 1948 – 1952 Ford F1 Pickup Truck. The NEW Heidts Superide II ™ IFS features uses the Mustang II dropped spindle to allow for a front mount rack & pinion unit, to ease motor installation. It uses a geometry design very similar to the Mustang II, which works well on the classic trucks. The upper control arms use threaded adjusters for the wheel alignment. These threaded adjusters, unlike eccentric adjusters, will never “slip” and lose alignment no matter how big a bump you hit. “Smooth” describes the ride: very low and highly steerable with no bumpsteer and built-in anti-dive. Installing the 1-piece crossmember is an easy one-step operation.
